Grade A Cocoa Beans

Our top grade: large, uniform beans with low defect and moisture counts.

Grade A is our tightest specification: large, uniform beans with low moisture, minimal defects, and consistent bean counts per hundred grams. Every Grade A lot is verified by cut test before loading, making it the right choice for fine chocolate, couverture, and buyers with demanding inbound QC.

What Grade A actually means

Our house Grade A maps to SNI 2323:2008 quality grade I with tighter size classes: a maximum bean count per hundred grams (size class A at ≤100 or class B at ≤105), moisture at or below 7.5%, and limits on mouldy, slaty, and insect-damaged beans in the cut test. Those figures appear on every specification sheet, so your inbound QC can verify our grading against the same criteria we used.

How we grade

Grading happens in our own Makassar facility, not at a third-party warehouse. Each lot is sampled, cut-tested, weighed for bean count, and moisture-checked before it earns its grade, and lots that miss Grade A thresholds are honestly sold as Grade B rather than blended upward. That separation is what keeps the premium grade dependable.

Who buys Grade A

Fine chocolate makers, couverture houses, and buyers whose own customers audit their supply chain choose Grade A. The larger, more uniform beans roast evenly and yield more nib per kilo, which usually offsets the price premium for flavour-focused production.
